Michigan State Spartans star senior forward Draymond Green joined Magic Johnson in the NCAA Tournament record books Friday night.

Green, who earned Big Ten Player of the Year honors this season, poured in 24 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and dished 10 assists in the Spartans' 89-67 tournament-opening victory over the LIU-Brooklyn Blackbirds in Columbus, Ohio.

Green became the first player since Magic -- who helped lead the Spartans to the 1979 NCAA title -- to record two triple-doubles in the NCAA Tournament.

While Green was more than productive Friday night, he did get a little assistance from sophomore center Adreian Payne, who finished with 16 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Keith Appling checked in with 10 points, three assists and three rebounds.

Michigan State faces St. Louis on Sunday for a trip to the Sweet 16.
